Diana Camera Photos

Over the holidays, I bought a Diana camera – which is an old little plastic toy camera using medium format (120) film that gives a vignetted grainy look which I love.  They’ve just released a new version of it.  I’ve only taken one roll of film so far but I wanted to post a few pics from the Tampa DWF Photo Convention (the ones of me are taken by my great friend Elsa).  This might be fun to take on my upcoming Grand Canyon/LA trip and I hope to shoot some wedding portraits with it this spring/summer.

Welcome Baby Austin!

It’s so wonderful to be at the beginning of someone’s marriage as
their wedding photographer and to see their lives and families being built.   Congratulations to Michelle and Ed on their first baby, Austin, and thank you for sending in some photos!

Running of the Brides Tomorrow!

I’m not sure if this would be my worst nightmare or something totally fun (you know what I mean!), but I saw in the Courant today that tomorrow, the 22nd, is the semi-annual Filene’s Basement "Running of the Brides" at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston…gowns from $900 to $9000 selling for $249 to $699…I thought it funny that the Courant said to wear a sports bar and be prepared to change in the aisles!  Here’s the link.

Sweet Simon

I’ve been so lucky to photograph these wonderful little babies lately.  Spending some time with Marcy and Simon was so nice – this sweetheart was so alert and just lit up when his mom was near:

Looking for an eclectic, unique swing band…Shiny Lapel Trio???

Well, I’m not even sure if these guys do weddings but I saw on their website that they do "private events"…so I assume that they might…

But, last Saturday night we went out with friends to the Griswold Inn in Essex, CT and saw this great swing band called Shiny Lapel Trio in their Tap Room.  It was great!  They went from old standards like "Summer Wind" to "Americano" (remember in The Talented Mr. Ripley) and then broke into U2′s I Will Follow!

Everyone was on their feet dancing and singing and these guys could really play to a crowd.  I just wanted to pass their name on because if you are looking for something intimate and eclectic and fun …and not the standard wedding band, I could see these guys being a great, classy addition to a more intimate wedding (thinking tent wedding, etc.).  I did see that the lead singer Tiger Marion did the Kohl’s commercial to "Sway" and his voice has been compared to Michael Buble (and some like his voice better!)… here it is on You Tube.

They have a standard gig at the Griswold Inn on Tuesday nights if you want to check them out…and even if it’s not right for your wedding, it’s a great date night or night out with friends!

The other thing I’ll say about picking a band/dj/etc. for your wedding…never forget that the band/dj/etc. is your host to the whole night – it is so important that you get someone that can host/work a crowd in a way that fits with your style or you can get a guy willing to play anything you want but that is totally inappropriate for the type of party you want to throw.

Finally, as I feel the need to include  photos with most posts, I am so happy to have someone take a good photo of Mike and me together…there are very few which is why there is no pic of me or us on our website!  Thank you to Val Sorensen for this picture which I love:

Diana and Michael’s in Connecticut Bride

Diana and Michael’s Florence Griswold Museum wedding is  featured as a Real Wedding in the current issue of Connecticut Bride.  It’s great to get a wedding in this magazine as they do a full two-page spread on each wedding.  I’m so happy they included our quirky picture of Diana on the streets of Essex CT with the black French Poodle…that just doesn’t happen every day…and the bridal party was so up for photos which is always wonderful!

Rachel and Christian in Connecticut Bride

I’ve just picked up my Spring/Summer 2008 copy of Connecticut Bride Magazine and scanned in our photos.  It was great to get to illustrate one of their articles with a photo from Rachel and Christian’s wedding at The Branford House in Groton.  We had an amazing sky that night and although I lightened Rachel and Christian, the sky wasn’t done in PS…it really looked that way:
