JUDGES COMMENTS: A romantic picture. I love the light, the sun setting on right, warm glow adds to romanticism. The cake, bride and groom sort of lean towards same way, almost like as if one. I like the focus is on the cake, and bride and groom slightly out of focus works. |

You may remember that we shot the documentary-style project of the re-installation of the Swarovski chandeliers at the New York Metropolitan Opera late last summer for the 50th anniversary of Lincoln Center. Now that the chandeliers are up, we have been hired by Swarovski again to capture product/architectural shots of the lit sputniks. This was a completely different approach, slowing down…using a tripod, high apertures, low ISO and some off-camera lighting. Part one of the project is to capture shots of the chandeliers in daylight:

We met Joy and Peter a few years ago as their wedding photographers and have really enjoyed getting to know them better over the years. We are so happy to celebrate their first baby with them! When Joy asked us to do the maternity shoot and said “I’ll do anything”, my local dry cleaner came to mind with their vintage washing machines…I don’t know why (circles and the round belly, maybe???)! But I thought we’d better do some simple studio portraits too to offset that campy idea! Here are the results and I think Joy looks really beautiful:

We’re excited for the kick-off for the 2009 Mets season and can’t wait to see what SNY has done with our images! The Mets have also since asked for the color versions, so we hope to be seeing them too! Please let us know if you see them first! More can be seen in our Mets portfolio on our website at www.photojane.com.

Last week I had the pleasure of being the photographer for the YWCA’s “In the Company of Women” Annual Fundraising Luncheon which is a gathering of 1400 Connecticut women at the Connecticut Convention center. It’s full of the state’s women leaders (political, business, youth, and more) including Governor Jodi Rell, Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz, and Catherine Smith, CEO of ING U.S. Retirement Services. The keynote speaker was Jeannette Walls, author of the very popular book group pick “The Glass Castle” (great book, if you haven’t read it). I found it fascinating to hear her story first hand and have the opportunity to talk with her one-on-one as we waited to photograph her with guests.
The YWCA mission is “to empower women and girls and eliminate racism.” They are “committed to creating opportunities one woman at a time. The YWCA
serves Greater Hartford with vital programs, including early learning
and school-age childcare; emergency, transitional and permanent
supportive housing; child abuse prevention; youth leadership
development; and financial literacy education.” If you’d like to make a donation or volunteer, you can find out more information here.
