Anne-Marie and Paul’s Wedding at the Beach Plum Inn on Martha’s Vineyard

It was great meeting Anne-Marie, the former fisherwoman from Juneau, Alaska, and her wonderful fiance and friends on a blue sky September day on Martha’s Vineyard!

Anne-Marie and Paul’s beautiful wedding ceremony and reception were held at the Beach Plum Inn in Menemsha.  This was the third wedding we’ve photographed at the Beach Plum, a great private inn tucked into the woods overlooking Menemsha Harbor, where folks gather nightly to watch the sun setting over Vineyard Sound.

Anne-Marie and her bridesmaids got ready down island at the Harbor View Inn in Edgartown. The Harbor View is also picture perfect and ideally located just across from the Edgartown Lighthouse at the mouth of the harbor.  Still plenty of sailboats coming and going, and lots of fishing activity with the start of the Martha’s Vineyard Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby.

The stunning flowers were from Louise Sweet at Flowers on the Vineyard, who also provided the floral arrangements for Kylle and Will’s wedding back in 2008.

Thank you Anne-Marie and Paul for having us photograph your wedding!

Natalie and Adam’s Wedding at the Red Lion Inn in Cohasset MA

Natalie and Adam were married two weeks ago at the Red Lion Inn, on the South Shore of Boston in Cohasset, Massachusetts.  The Red Lion is old world European, featuring the authentic Brasserie Zapp with its exposed beams and polished brass bar (and photos of celebs such as Steven Tyler dining at the Brasserie).

Attached to the Red Lion Inn is the Lion’s Hall, a rough-hewn wood chapel with a wrap-around loft, where Natalie and Adam’s ceremony was held.  After the ceremony there were touching and funny speeches by Natalie’s dad, Adam’s brother, and Natalie’s sister who was hilarious in her imitation of Natalie as a young child.

On display at the reception were photographs of Natalie and Adam growing up, and it made me think how other people’s family photos really draw folks in.  In a similar vein, check out the award-winning documentary film “Other People’s Pictures” by our friends Lorca Sheppard and Cabot Philbrick, about collectors of other people’s snapshots.

We also want to mention the beautiful pink rose floral arrangements were by Calyx Floral Design.

Natalie and Adam, we hope you had a great time in Italy– thank you for having us photograph your wedding!

Hilary and Adam’s Wedding at the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme CT

We were very happy to be back at the Florence Griswold Museum (the Flo Gris) in Old Lyme, Connecticut to photograph Hilary and Adam’s outdoor wedding on a gorgeous September Saturday afternoon.  With the sloping lawn leading down to the Lieutenant River (popular with kayakers this time of year) the Flo Gris is a just a beautiful place to get married.  And Adam and Hilary’s family and friends looked so happy for them, providing the perfect atmosphere for their wedding.

Hilary got ready next door at The Bee and Thistle Inn, another great coastal Connecticut venue.  Adam arrived from the Water’s Edge Resort, sporting cuff-links made from Yankee Stadium’s blue seats, circa 1978.

The flowers by Paul David of The Flower District fit the scene perfectly, and the Gourmet Galley served great hors d’oeuvres from oysters to lobster rolls to crabcake sliders. After the Beatles music for the processional and recessional, the Bruce Saunders Entertainment band from New York played a variety of music perfect for dinner (at times the members playing solo during dinner–nice touch) as well as for energetic dancing.

Adam is very into photography and so it’s great that, in addition to our photojournalistic shooting, we shot in a variety of Flo Gris locations from the gardens to the river to “The Rambles” stick art sculpture, and a late night shoot in the Adirondack chairs (miniaturized in Hilary and Adam’s cake topper) down near the river.

Andrew from Well Spun Weddings gathered footage to make a Super 8 film-looking video.  And after the wedding, the party moved to the Copper Beech Inn, yet another classic Connecticut Shore restaurant.

Hilary and Adam, thank you so much for choosing us to photograph your wedding!

Kara and Kyle’s Wedding at the Lake of Isles in North Stonington CT

Kara and Kyle were married over Labor Day weekend in very fun fashion at the Lake of Isles in North Stonington, Connecticut.  They got ready at the MGM Grand Hotel at Foxwoods, with the ceremony at the Cathedral of St. Patrick a few miles away in Norwich where, fittingly, they had a bagpiper playing outside the church.

There were many nice touches…Kara’s dad is an artist and hand made the metal floral arrangement holders, each one unique, while Kara’s step-father sang and played the organ for Kara and Kyle’s first dance.  And guests were invited to sign several bottles of wine and Port for Kara and Kyle to savor at their first, fifth, tenth, twenty-fifth and fiftieth anniversaries.

Kara and Kyle are diehard Jets fans (see their engagement shoot from a few months back with matching jerseys) and named their reception tables after famous Jets players…and as for cakes, it was all green and white, and Kyle got a NY Jets helmet groom’s cake as well.

The cocktail hour was held on the deck overlooking the lake, which felt like a big backyard party.  Those Guys Band were a great choice, playing everything from The Psychedelic Furs to The Cure to Simon and Garfunkel to Dexy’s Midnight
Runners….not to mention a big block of Duran Duran.  Ahh…80s heaven.

OK, we have to mention the shoes…Kara wore the cool royal blue Manolo Blahnik pumps worn by Carrie in the movie Sex and the City.

It was nice to be back at the Lake of Isles and to see Sheila and Bethany again, where we really notice the professionalism and hustle of all the service staff.

As Kyle would say, thanks Babe (and thank you Kyle) for having us photograph your wedding!

Leah and Timothy’s Wedding at the Wake Robin Inn in Lakeville CT

We traveled to the beautiful Wake Robin Inn in Lakeville, Connecticut in the Litchfield hills for Leah and Timothy’s Moroccan-themed tented wedding in late August.  Folks came from England, Australia and elsewhere to this corner of Connecticut–where NY, MA and CT meet–to celebrate their wedding…and it didn’t rain!

Leah and Timothy selected various Moroccan items for their wedding, from the toffee-colored lanterns to the bright orange harissa on the tables.  The Wake Robin is perfect for country weddings as you have the Inn all to yourselves…it has its own pub, and lots of reading rooms perfect for the cocktail party that followed the outdoor ceremony.

For the reception, they dined and danced under a Sperry Tent, which is distinctively different from a white vinyl tent—the tent fabric is sailcloth and drapes more naturally from the tent poles…and it’s more translucent.  Perfect choice for Leah and Timothy’s Moroccan theme.   (For more info about tent types, check out this article from the Wedding Bee Pro, a good wedding blog).  The lighting created a warm-toned mood with wrought iron chandeliers hung from the tent poles.

After several speeches, the band, led by New York musician Eric Nicolas, delivered some great music.

Thanks Leah and Timothy (and Ami!) for having us photograph your wedding!

Jennifer and Mike’s Wedding at the Candlewood Inn in Brookfield CT

Jennifer and Mike were married last week at St. Joseph’s Church in Danbury which Jennifer attended while growing up in Connecticut (and where we photographed Lauren and David’s wedding in early August).  It was a very warm day with blue sky as family and friends arrived at the church.  About an hour later the torrential rains kicked in during the recessional, cooling things off nicely.

The flash flood was short lived and we were all off to the Candlewood Inn, where we went lakeside with Jennifer and Mike.  A few hours later we were rewarded with a beautiful late summer sunset over Candlewood Lake.  Jennifer’s mom did a great job of planning the wedding details, and the beautiful floral arrangements and bouquets really showed it.  The evening ended with a high energy dance party…very fun.

Jennifer and Mike, thank you very much for having us shoot your wedding!
