It’s been a great summer and fall for family portraits and it was such a pleasure working with Jen, Larry and their family … a great night with great light!  Thank you guys!

I recently had the opportunity to photograph three wonderful models in some north-facing New York daylight studios.  Photographers such as Irving Penn, Richard Avedon and Brigitte Lacombe all shot/shoot in daylight studios for the beautiful quality of light.

Jane and I went into NYC last week for the PDN PhotoPlus Expo–the tradeshow and conference for all things photographic. Walking to the Javits Center, we saw a NYC scene in great light and Jane snapped a photo of a painter enjoying his java before starting work.

Good classes, especially the Adobe Lightroom session and great keynotes by Nigel Parry on his celebrity portraits and James Nachtwey on his photojournalism over the past 25 years.

Went to The Ten Bells for wine and tapas down on Broome Street just north of Chinatown before heading to the PDN party in the Hammerstein Ballroom where we met some new photogs and had a blast with old PUG friends.

Checked out Robert Frank’s The Americans photo exhibit at the Met of his trek around the US in the 1950s–great stuff.  Stopped at Anthony Bourdain’s old workplace, Les Halles, for a bistro bite before heading out of Penn Station (albeit 3.5 hours late due to lightning strikes) for home in Hartford…but today we got a call from Amtrak with free train tickets due to the delay!

Great getting together with Catherine and Justin for their engagement shoot in Hartford’s Elizabeth Park.  Nice getting to know you guys better and look forward to photographing your wedding two months from now!

While photographing Stela’s family in Elizabeth Park recently, Jane met Hartford Courant photojournalist Mark Mirko who shot Jane in action.

The dahlias were still in bloom and made a great backdrop for Stela’s beautiful family.

The Fall / Winter 2009 edition of The Connecticut Bride is out and features two of our clients who were married in October of 2008—Jessica & James and Leslie & Brian!

Jessica and James’ wedding was at the Hill-Stead Museum in Farmington CT and Leslie and Brian were married in Southport CT and held their reception at the Fairfield County Hunt Club in Westport CT.

Kasia and Hamilton celebrated in style in early October at their Litchfield County wedding.  Kasia got ready at the Mayflower Inn and Spa, nestled into the Washington Depot countryside, and the ceremony was just up the road at St. John’s Episcopal Church.

Their reception was held at Hamilton’s parents’ beautiful home in the Litchfield Hills, complete with a wood-floored Sperry Tent featuring sailcloth draping from wooden poles.  Max’s Catering provided outstanding food and service, with nice touches such as squash soup served in espresso cups.

The lovely flowers were from Pentimento Design and the dinner and dancing music was provided by the High Society Rhythm Band.  Later in the night, the billiards and fireplace rooms provided very cool backdrops for family photos.

The American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP)–one of the largest associations of commercial photographers in the US–recently announced its “Best of ASMP 2009″ winners….and Jane was among the list for her photojournalistic portraits of the 2009 New York Mets!  Way to go Jane!

This shoot took place in February 2009 at Spring Training in Port St. Lucie, Florida at the Mets’ Tradition Field.  You can read their full interview with Jane about the shoot online at ASMP Bulletin Best Of 2009. These images also won the 2009 PDN Faces Contest this past summer.

It’s Fall portrait and holiday card time again!  Our last shoot for outdoor portraits will be October 30th, weather permitting.  Indoor shoots need to be completed by November 15th to ensure holiday card and print delivery.

New designs are available for our big & bold 5×7 holiday cards!  I love the untraditional spring-like ones…wishful thinking : } …but there are some traditional wintery ones too!
