Mika and Brendan’s Photo Shoot in Studio & at Elizabeth Park
Mika and Brendan, Part Duex! We’ve been planning to get studio space for shooting portraits…so we were psyched yesterday to have our first shoot with Mika and Brendan, the really nice couple who were married two weeks ago at Eolia Mansion (see their pics below).
Mika and Brendan came down to Hartford for a kimono photo shoot in-studio and outside at Elizabeth Park in West Hartford. For the studio shoot, we chose two looks: one fresh, contemporary and fun (the pink background) and one more classic and intimate (black background).
It was great working with Yuki, the kimono dresser who also helped with styling throughout the shoot.
This was our first shoot in this studio in the Parkville section of Hartford…a great neighborhood of Portuguese, Brazilian and Vietnamese…where we plan to shoot engagement shoots and portraits monthly.
Then we drove down the road to Elizabeth Park in West Hartford where Mika and Brendan looked amazing amidst the rose garden in bloom.
Mika and Brendan, great shoot…thanks!! Have a wonderful summer in your new home in the Bay area!

Mika and Brendan’s Wedding at the Eolia Mansion at Harkness Memorial State Park
Jane and I loved photographing–and getting to know–Mika and Brendan and their families on their gorgeous blue sky wedding day last weekend at the Eolia Mansion at Harkness Memorial Park in Waterford, Connecticut.
Mika’s family is Japanese, and the couple incorporated many distinctive Japanese elements into their day: delicate origami cranes held their escort cards, custom Mika and Brendan Japanese fans were arranged next to the table settings and Japanese tea was served during the reception. Also check out the ladies in kimonos silhouetted against the night sky with the sliver of moon and Venus (hmm…goddess of love..interesting) above them.
After the ceremony Mika changed from her wedding dress into her cool traditional kimono for the cocktail hour. Mika’s family friend, dressed in her striking orange and yellow kimono, performed a traditional Japanese wedding dance prior to their first dance.
Mika and Brendan were great in their first dance—“In My Life” by the Beatles played by the band Shine from Boston. Later in the evening, Mika’s friend serenaded the couple, nicely belting out a customized rendition of “Don’t Stop Believing.” The large contingent of Tufts friends (Mika and Brendan’s alma mater) was lots of fun, and added to the festive feeling.
They chose a beautiful green and pink color scheme, which fit perfectly with the jade of the Eolia mansion. The amazing flowers were provided by the always great Yumiko from Hana Floral Design in Mystic CT. Loved working again with Talia from Sixpence For Your Shoe wedding planners–they do a great job planning and executing a wedding! And Naomi Martinez Salon did a beautiful job styling Mika and the ladies.
Mika and Brendan, congratulations and thanks so much for having us document your day!!

Jane and Sebbie in NYC
A few weeks ago I took our 6 year old Sebbie into New York for an overnighter to spend some one-on-one time together. It was one of the best times we’ve ever had and I really want to do more trips like this.
We checked out MoMA where we saw Picasso and the Tim Burton exhibit and I raced through the Cartier-Bresson photo exhibit. Then it was off to the the Central Park Zoo for some penguin time.
Thanks Megan and Bret for the tip on Serendipity 3 (…home of the frozen hot chocolate!) and thanks to Kathleen for the advice on seeing the Central Park playgrounds!
Here are a few snaps from our trip…love you Sebbie!
