Reinvention: Sally

I’ve just begun a personal project that I’ve been thinking about for a long time…it’s called “Reinvention” and it’s about women who reinvent themselves mid-life.  In addition to my own reinvention story…becoming a photographer after nine years in the corporate world, I noticed many of my friends and the women around me had totally switched gears in their 30s or 40s to do something more fulfilling in life.  Meet Sally…smoking cessation counselor who loved making jewelry and launched Sally Lerman Jewelry a couple of years ago.

Modern Dance Performance Tonight and Tomorrow

Last night I (Jane) had the pleasure of photographing Dance Connect’s dress rehearsal of “Kindness”, an imaginative modern dance performance at the Charter Oak Cultural Center.  If you are a fan of dance, check them out…they are in Hartford around the corner from the downtown restaurants.  The performance is at 7:30 and lasts about an hour.  Click here to see the details.

Athena and John’s Essex CT Wedding on Style Me Pretty Today!!

Whoohoo!!  Athena and John’s Essex CT wedding is featured today on Style Me Pretty!  A terrific couple….their nautically-inspired wedding last June was perfect…with their outside ceremony at Main Street Park (the rainy skies parted just in time) and their reception a short stroll down the street at The Essex Yacht Club.  A great wedding…with the dynamic duo of event planners, Talia and Lindsay from Sixpence for your Shoe, super vibrant flowers from Yumiko Fletcher’s Hana Floral Design, hair and makeup by Dana Bartone & Company and a sailcloth tent from Sperry Tents!  Click on the image below to see the photos and article in Style Me Pretty!

Walk MS in West Hartford CT

You can read about support systems and getting help from your friends and family when you have a disease.  But this really hit home when I photographed the Hartford Walk MS on April 10 for the Connecticut Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.  I saw firsthand how folks with MS got the inspiration and strength from their family and friends (and definitely vice versa), helping them to walk that day.  If you’re interested in getting involved, please contact Heather Campbell at the Hartford MS Society office at hcampbell@ctfightsms.org.  Here are some pics from the walk..to see more click on “Click to view more photos…

Boys & Girls Club Gala at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford

Great Futures Start Here–that’s the tagline for the Boys & Girls Clubs.  I’ve always seen Denzel Washington’s ads for the Boys & Girls Club, and a few weeks back Jane and I saw firsthand the huge impact that the Hartford Boys & Girls Club makes in local kids’ lives when we photographed their 600+ person fundraising gala at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford.  The Clubs provides that “third place”, other than home and school, where Hartford kids can play, learn, make friends and get mentored.  If you’re looking to get involved in childrens’ lives or wish to donate, please contact them at 860.724.0700.

Here are some photos from the gala….to see more click on “Click to view more photos…” below.

Rio Baby! Made in CT Movie Premiere in Hartford with Sen. Dodd and Gov. Malloy!

Hollywood East here we come!  Connecticut’s generous 30% tax credit for making movies has drawn lots of film makers to our fair state.  The latest homegrown movie is Rio, the big animated feature from Blue Sky Studios in Greenwich (owned by 20th Century Fox).  Rio’s premiere at the Connecticut Science Center drew some big names in show biz and politics including former CT Senator Chris Dodd (now the Chairman and CEO of Hollywood’s MPAA), CT Governor Dan Malloy and 20th Century Fox Chairman and CEO, Jim Gianopulos.

A great event, with two showings of Rio for the kids at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center and the Hartford Boys & Girls Club.  The kids also got a chance to interact with the visual artists who created the creatures in Rio.

It was a pleasure working with Kristin of The Ferris Group and Mary of Coursey & Co., both also based in West Hartford.  Rio is going to be a big hit…Sebbie, our 7 year old, already knows the names of the show’s birds from the Angry Birds Rio game!  To see more pics, click on “Click to view more photos” in pink below.
