The BRIDES Magazine | WPJA photo contest winners were announced this week..and three winning pictures were from Neil and Kelly's wedding at the Astors' Beechwood in Newport!
BRIDES magazine along with the Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA) conduct the contest.
Neil and Kelly's Newport wedding in the summer of 2007 was beautiful and so intimate and fun, which I think the photos capture.
The winning photos are below and at Brides.com...check out the bridal party on the lawn at Astors' Beechwood , Kelly and her Father, and Neil and Kelly dancing!
You can view more pictures from Neil and Kelly's wedding --(go to Wedding Stories and select the Neil and Kelly, Newport gallery).
SECOND PLACE: Photo by Jane Shauck / Connecticut
| CONTEST: CATEGORY: |
JUDGES COMMENTS: The blur and angle of this picture add to its sense of fun and
excitement. It makes you want to be part of the party. |
THIRD PLACE: Photo by Jane Shauck / Connecticut

JUDGES
COMMENTS: There is a relationship between father and daughter that no
one can take away. This image captures the chaos around them while the
mother helps her daughter get ready and the bride stays fixated on her
father. |
TENTH PLACE: Photo by Jane Shauck / Connecticut
| CONTEST: CATEGORY: |
JUDGES COMMENTS: The contrast in this picture is nice because it really makes the
bride stand out in the center of the dancing crowd. Her expression is fun and flirty. |
We are very excited to see one of our favorite pictures from Leslie and Warren's Inn at Longshore wedding get published in Fairfield County's Wedding Vow magazine...yay!
I submitted this image of Katie's bridesmaids for the Artistic Guild of the Wedding Photojournalist Association Spring Contest and just found out it placed 12th for Getting Ready. Yay!
Judge's
Comments:
1. A
little surprise in the lower left corner takes this image beyond a
"reflection" photo. Good seeing and sense of timing by the
photographer. The soft tones and subtle vignette keep your eye focused
on the right side of the frame until your eye is surprised by the face
in the smaller mirror.
very cool! congratulations. what a great review by the judge's. i always love hearing what they have to say about the images they choose. reminds me of crit in college.

In yesterday's mail came a copy of The Knot's 2008 Best of Weddings and I was thrilled to see this photo from Ben and Sharon's Astor's Beechwood Newport wedding make it in under the "must have shot: the wedding party"! I was contacted by The Knot who had seen the photo on the blog and they weren't sure it would make it in until they did they layout. This was such a fun shot to shoot and I love flairs!
Just got word that I am number 20 on the 'Top 100 WPJA Photographers For 2007' list...kind of excited! WPJA is the Wedding Photojournalist Association. Yay.

wohoo! congrats! i wish i read this before the meeting. I just joined WPJA...or should I say, just got accepted. Good seeing you!

Diana and Michael's Florence Griswold Museum wedding is featured as a Real Wedding in the current issue of Connecticut Bride. It's great to get a wedding in this magazine as they do a full two-page spread on each wedding. I'm so happy they included our quirky picture of Diana on the streets of Essex CT with the black French Poodle...that just doesn't happen every day...and the bridal party was so up for photos which is always wonderful!
I've just picked up my Spring/Summer 2008 copy of Connecticut Bride Magazine and scanned in our photos. It was great to get to illustrate one of their articles with a photo from Rachel and Christian's wedding at The Branford House in Groton. We had an amazing sky that night and although I lightened Rachel and Christian, the sky wasn't done in PS...it really looked that way:
I don't even know what to say about this WPJA (Wedding Photojournalist Association) win except I am so excited especially given the judges came from VII and especially with the portrait of Leslie and Warren - it was one of my favorites this year.
Here are the images:
1st Place Food and Drink from Agnes and Jason's Wedding of Jason's brother and sister in the limo:
5th Place Creative Portrait of Leslie and Warren (with help from 2nd shooter Danielle holding the light that's highlighting Leslie's waist):
Thanks guys for being so fun and up for creating pictures!

Jane! I saw your wins and am SO excited for you- your shots are incredible!!! Let's get together after the new year and celebrate!!

On the PR front, I'm really excited to announce that a picture from Michelle and Ed's wedding recently won an award in the latest WPJA international photography contest! This was such a crazy, memorable moment that father and daughter shared that day!
NINTH PLACE: Jane Shauck / Connecticut

JUDGE'S COMMENTS: This is something you don't see everyday. The photographer was ready for the drama and made a great picture. The balance of the image is great with the dark limousines acting as big, black borders to the white steam and the bride's gown. The limo driver's face is also nicely framed with the door's window. The guys in the background hustling also adds some extra energy to the scene.
JANE'S NOTE: The Judges seem to think Michelle's dad is the limo driver (must be the tux???). I think it's a much more touching photo when you realize that that is Michelle's dad saving his daughter from a smoking car! :)

We like to submit our weddings to bridal magazines and have just received our copies of The Connecticut Bride Spring/Summer 2007 issue. Here's a peak at Ed and Elizabeth's spread:
Thanks guys!

amazing accomplishment Jane! Congratulations!
